Deep Caries Treated with Ozone & Triage

| 4.5 has very deep distal caries, close to pulp. 1.5
will be extracted. |

| Tofflemyre matrix band surrounds 4.5 after cavity preparation.
Deepest caries has not been removed, attempting to prevent a need for root
canal treatment. Circumference must be sealed with block-out resin (below)
before ozone can be delivered to kill bacteria in the remaining carious
layer. |

| Blue block-out resin is ready to accept the rubber cup for
delivery of ozone into the deep 4.5 cavity. |

| TRIAGE glass ionomer (pink) is in 4.5 as a good temporary
restoration, intended to help remineralize the deep carious lesion after
ozone treatment. Tooth 4.6 will need restoration, although it looks good
on radiograph. Patient did return for scaling by dental hygienist. |

2.5 will be restored.
2.6 will be extracted. Mesial caries extends to alveolar bone. Patient will
consider possibility of implant and crown at 2.6 site, rather than root
canal treatment and difficult restoration. |

| Blue block-out resin creates circumferential seal for
rubber cup to deliver ozone.
Then Triage glass ionomer restoration was placed. One month later, Triage
was reduced and left as a base, over which bonded composite resin restoration
was placed. (Photos of restorations were not made.) 4 months after caries
and ozone treatment, 2.5 is still comfortable. Will we be successful long
term in preventing pulp pathology?
