Molar has two amalgam
restorations. The tooth
material between them
will subsequently break

Cusp
of tooth broke, and one amalgam came out. Stain and some new
caries is visible in the cavity. |
|
After
stain, caries, and amalgam were removed, composite resin restoration
was placed. Local anaesthetic was used to prevent pain during
treatment. |

Tooth 1.4 has gold inlay, made many years ago, by another
dentist.
Tooth 1.5 fractured, allowing a similar gold inlay to come
out. Previous cement was removed. There was no caries.
Tooth was not sensitive.
I repaired it with composite resin. Tooth 1.6 has amalgam
restoration.

The direct bonding of composite resin to restore
these fractured teeth took 30 to 40 minutes, with very little
cutting of healthy tooth material. This may or may not give
a good long-term result.

|
Other restorative methods are possible, with stronger materials,
but at higher cost and more time.
Alternatives:
|
|
- Porcelain inlay, onlay, or crown
- Porcelain-on-metal crown
- Cad-Cam technology that shapes a block of tooth-coloured
material to become an inlay, onlay or crown
