Dr. Mel
Perlmutter has been practicing dentistry in Brampton since 1971,
joining the Bramalea Dental Group, which subsequently evolved
into Bramalea Dentistry. He has been at the current location beside
the Holiday Inn Select, at Bramalea City Centre, since 1979.
After graduation from University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry,
in 1970, he chose to continue his education at The Genesee Hospital
in Rochester, N. Y., which included lectures and practical experience
at the famed Eastman Dental Center. He has never stopped learning.
In 1980, he achieved recognition as a Fellow of the Academy of
General Dentistry. In 1995 he enrolled in the accreditation programme
of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, a project he is
still working on. He has also been a teacher, lecturing to other
dentists and dental students, and training dental assistants in
his office.
Philosophy
of Practice
Dr. Perlmutter has always believed in having a relationship of
TRUST with his patients. Patients can trust that he will make
treatment recommendations that are in their best interest. He
will not “sell” them something they don’t need.
He believes in informed consent, meaning that patients should
know various treatment options, including the option of no treatment,
and their likely consequences. To help explain things to his patients,
he uses photos of his own work. Since 1996, Dr. Perlmutter has
used digital radiography and digital intraoral photography to
show patients their own teeth displayed on the computer monitor.
(Digital radiography uses less radiation than traditional x-ray
film, another patient benefit.)
“Act in the best interest of the patient.” This is
what all staff at Bramalea Dentistry are encouraged to do, always.
The chairside dental assistant and the dental hygienist see the
patient’s mouth from another perspective. Dr. Perlmutter
welcomes their observations and suggestions. It is this attitude
of mutual cooperation and respect that has fostered a pleasant
office environment that has resulted in very low staff turnover.
Betty, the chief receptionist, has worked with Dr. Perlmutter
since 1977. Nancy, the preventive dental assistant in charge
of our children’s programme, has been here since 1990.
Jolanta, our senior chairside dental assistant, has been here since 1989.
Dental hygienist, Cathy, has treated patients here since 1996, as has
Michael Litvack, denturist. Patients appreciate this staff loyalty, and the terrific teamwork that
is associated with it.
We are pleased to welcome new patients.
